PADI Divemaster Course Schedule

There are three main areas of training.

· Knowledge of Diving Theory and Principles.
· Watermanship and Skill Assessment
· Practical Application of Divemaster.

Knowledge of Diving Theory and Principles
There are eight exams on the following subjects:

1. Divemaster Conducted Programs.
2. Supervising Certified Divers.
3. Assisting with Student Divers in Training.
4. Physics.
5. Physiology.
6. Equipment.
7. Dive skills and the Environment.
8. Decompression Theory and the Recreational Dive Planner.

Students will need to purchase the Encyclopaedia of Recreational Diving and the Diving Knowledge Workbook to aid study. Students are encouraged to learn as much as they can about all related topics. You can not learn too much at this stage in your training.

Watermanship and Skill Assessment
There are four areas, which are:

1. Watermanship and Skill Assessment.
2. Diving skills polished and evaluated to demonstration quality.
3. Problem Solving Exercise.
4. Diver Rescue Skills brought up to demonstration quality.

Practical Application of Divemaster
There can be two options available to complete the Divemaster course.

Option 1 Internership
In this option the Divemaster candidate will supervise and assist divers during training situations. All this is done under Instructor supervision. The candidate must assist in five confined water sessions and five open water sessions in various courses. This is the option Aquaturtle normally recommends as you get a lot of hands on experience with real students in training.

Option 2 Practical Training Exercises
This option is used if option 1 is unfeasible due to logistics and actual supervisory situations. Here the candidates and other staff take turns in role playing as students, Divemasters and Instructor. This is great fun as well as educational. Practical training exercises afford comparable training and experience because you can simulate the situations candidates would encounter.

In both options Divemaster candidates must prepare a Dive site Map and an Emergency assistance plan.
